The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Printmedia Department and Lessedra Gallery & Contemporary Art Projects
Featuring prints of students and faculty from The National Academy of Arts - Sofia, and The Faculty of Fine Arts - University of Veilko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, this Dark Night Event is the closing reception to a year-long correspondence and print-exchange between the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and these two prestigious schools in Bulgaria. Printmaking faculty and students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago will be in matching exhibitions in Sofia and Veilko Tarnovo, Bulgaria in December.
This print-exchange began last fall when recent MFA graduate, Hague Williams, visited Sofia, Bulgaria, meeting Georgi Kolev of LESSEDRA Gallery & Contemporary Art Projects. He proposed the idea of uniting the contemporary traditions of Bulgarian printmaking and American printmaking in an exchange in order to learn more about the differences and similarities of these two disparate but strong traditions. This exhibit brings students and faculty from three of the finest art institutions in the world together through the language of printmaking. The conclusion of a wonderful cultural exchange and the team work of the students, faculty, Georgi Kolev of LESSEDRA, Hague Williams, and SAIC faculty Wrik Repasky, will be celebrated at 1926 gallery.
